Review Summary:
Netflix is by far the largest online movie rental service available today. With 85% market share, they currently has over 6 million subscribers. Rightfully so. With over 85,000 titles to choose from, you'll be hard pressed to come across a movie that Netflix does not have. The movie search/browse interface is extremely easy to use and is very clean and professional. It even has a personalized 'Recommentaions' area, where movies are recommended to you based on your ratings of previously viewed movies. Netflix offers multiple professional critic reviews, top 100 lists, and critic's picks. You can search for movies based on several criteria such as movie title, actor/director names, movie studio, genre, etc. Netflix has more than 25 distribution centers nationwide to ensure fast shipping. Normally it takes 1-3 days to get your movie from the time you add it to your queue.

Walmart
|
Pros:
• Solid reputation
• Giant movie selection
• 2 free in-store rentals a month
• Personalized movie recommendations
|
Cons:
• Relatively slow shipping
• Relatively low new release availability
|
Review Summary:
Blockbuster is the Goliath of the movie rental business. With more than 75,000 titles to choose from, the only company that is on par with their inventory selection is Netflix. Blockbuster has come a long way since they started their online rental service. The movie search/browse interface is on par with Netflix - they offer movie ratings and a personalized rating system similar to that of Netflix. Blockbuster currently has about 20 distribution centers, but we expect them to expand quickly. If you live near a Blockbuster video store, Blockbuster's Total Access plan is probably the best option available, sine you can rent online and at the store under the same plan.

DVD Avenue
|
Pros:
• PS1, PS2, and XBOX games available.
• Option to buy used DVDs
• Full-featured interface
|
Cons:
• No free trial
• 1 distribution center (Maryland)
|
Review Summary:
DVD Avenue is an excellent online DVD rental service. Tthe only things that keep it out of the top 2, are title selection and shipping. At 10,000 titles, DVD Avenue has less than half the selection as NetFlix. But if you are not into rare, hard to find titles, then that shouldn't be a problem. The other issue is shipping. DVD Avenue currently only has 1 distribution center which is in Maryland, so unless you are on or near the east coast, shipping times may be unacceptable to you. On the bright side, DVD Avenue offers an outstanding and easy to use search/browse interface with several categories including several genres, New Releases, Academy Awards, AFI Top 100, Coming Soon, Television, PS2, XBOX, and an advanced search with criteria for title, actor, director, genre, MPAA rating, genre, and category. If you live on or near near the east coast and would like to option of renting video games, and/or adult movies, DVD Avenue might be the choice for you.

Intelliflix
 |
Pros:
• Great value
|
Cons:
• Reports of poor customer support
|
Review Summary:
Intelliflix (formerly DVD Barn) offers a huge amount of movies and adult titles, but if delivery time is the most important feature, you may want to look elsewhere as delivery can be relatively slow depending on where you live.

GameznFlix
 |
Pros:
• Huge game selection
|
Cons:
• Relatively small selection
• No free trial
|
Review Summary:
GameznFlix is a relatively new online rental service. Their user interface is a bit lackluster compared to Netflix and Blockbuster. On the positive side, they have the largest selection of games of all the DVD rental sites that we reviewed. |
|
RentDVDHere
|
Pros:
• Only DVD rental site with a 1 DVD out plan
• PS2 and XBOX games available
|
Cons:
• No ratings / user input
• Relatively small selection
• No free trial
• 1 distribution center (Washington)
|
Review Summary:
RentDVDHere is one of the newer online DVD rental services. With only 5,000 titles, their movie selection pales in comparison to the above options. However, their low pricing, video game availability, and subscription plan selection make them an interesting possibility. If you live in the pacific northwest and would like the option of renting video games, then RentDVDHere may be what you're looking for.
